Louisiana calls its system the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System, or LAVNS, and provides web access through VINELink. Louisiana DPS&C says LAVNS includes people in prison and people on probation or parole supervision. The agency also says the system updates every 24 hours. That schedule makes LAVNS useful for a Lafourche Parish custody check, but not guaranteed real-time proof.
Parish participation and a specific custody event should be judged from the live Louisiana result. Read the agency attached to the record. An LPSO event concerns Lafourche Parish custody. A DPS&C record can concern a state institution or community supervision. “Released” by LPSO may still mean transfer to DPS&C, another parish, a federal authority, or ICE. VINELink is a custody-event and notification layer. It is not a certified legal discharge instrument. Fields can vary by the agency contributing data, so read only what the live record provides. Do not fill gaps with assumptions.

A “released” event from LPSO confirms a reported change in LPSO custody. It should still be paired with the parish release or transfer record if the destination matters. A probation or parole entry is affirmative evidence of community supervision, not unconditional discharge. A projected release date is forward-looking. It does not prove that release occurred.
Note: Preserve the reporting agency and last-update time because identical status words can describe different custody stages.

Confirm Lafourche VINELink Releases
A Lafourche Parish release check needs the agency record when exact time, type, or destination matters. Ask LPSO for the booking and release or transfer record. Request the release date and time, disposition, authority, public holds, and receiving agency. A Lafourche Clerk minute can explain the judge’s bond action, sentence, dismissal, probation, or commitment, though it may not contain the jail movement time.
For Louisiana state custody, DPS&C offers an automated locator at (225) 383-4580 using the DPS&C number or name and date of birth. A public requester should seek the existing discharge or status information instead of trying to calculate the sentence from court dates alone.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers sentenced federal records from 1982 onward and can show “Released” or “Not in BOP custody.” Federal pretrial people may instead be under USMS authority and absent from BOP. Lafourche LAVNS and LAVO
Louisiana has two distinct registration systems. LAVNS through VINELink is the general person locator and custody-notification service. The Louisiana Victim Outreach Program, or LAVO, is a DPS&C victim-services channel for qualifying notice about people imprisoned by the state. Registration in LAVNS does not automatically register someone in LAVO.
The DPS&C Victim Services page says LAVO notices can include initial placement, projected dates, sentence-changing rulings, pardon or parole hearings, escape and apprehension, transitional-work assignment, and release from prison by any means. It also says LAVO registration is required for qualifying notice of a state-imprisoned person’s projected and actual release.

Use VINELink for the public specific-person check and available custody alerts. Use LAVO only for its qualifying state-victim notification package. Neither replaces the formal jail or DPS&C record.
The systems can complement each other without sharing one registration. VINELink supplies the public search and any alerts offered on the matching record. LAVO applies its own eligibility and state-victim registration rules. Court dockets remain the source for judicial action, while LPSO or DPS&C records establish the custody event. Keep each source tied to the fact it is designed to prove.
Lafourche Release Search Gaps
A blank VINELink result is not proof of release. Recheck suffixes, hyphens, aliases, date of birth, agency, and any booking or DPS&C number. Then search the current LPSO roster and call LPCC. If the person was sentenced to state custody, use the DPS&C phone locator. If the case record shows a federal or immigration hold, move to the matching federal channel.
Fully discharged people may no longer be within a current locator’s scope. Older records may be archived, sealed, expunged, redacted, or subject to a retention schedule. “No online result” is the accurate statement. Request the source release or transfer record rather than turning silence into a custody conclusion.
The Lafourche Clerk’s criminal index and minute entries can bridge a gap when the jurisdiction is uncertain. A bond order, sentence, dismissal, probation order, or commitment can identify the legal action that preceded movement. The minute does not replace the jail timestamp, yet it can show why LPSO or DPS&C became the next agency to contact. When both sources differ, present the booking and docket numbers to each custodian and ask them to address the exact field in conflict.
